Tonight, the organization Women in Design Kansas City honors its namesake. The efforts of 13 creative women from this area will be celebrated during Design Loves Discussion at Arts Incubator (115 West 18th Street). "It's good to be aware of top designers from your own city, so you know who and what we have to offer," says WiD-KC programs chairwoman Katie Meyer. A 5:30 p.m. happy hour kicks off the free event. For the first hour, attendees can chat with winners — who include artists, art gallery directors and architects — and, through a special exhibit, learn what inspires them. A 6:30 p.m. panel discussion will also plumb the topic of creative influence and provide practical advice. Several of the winners, such as artist and Birdies co-owner Peregrine Honig, have their own businesses and will share insights about their experiences, Meyer says. See widkc.org for more information.
