Tonight, local personalities and civic leaders vie for the glory of being a dance champion at the third-annual fundraiser Kansas City Dancing With the Stars. Just like the TV show, competitors practice their routines with a local dance studio for several weeks. See the results (as well as some sparkly costumes and spirit fingers) at the Downtown Marriott–Muehlebach Tower (200 West 12th Street). A panel of judges will vote on KC "stars," including DJ Bryan Truta of KCJK 105.1, Rabbi Mark Levin and general manager Andrew Birgensmith of the KC Symphony. Bryan Busby of KMBC Channel 9 will emcee. Proceeds benefit Cristo Rey, a Catholic college-prep high school that takes culturally diverse students with economic need for its corporate work-study program. Tickets cost $150 (or $1,500 for a table of 10) and include drinks, dinner, and the chance to see some Cristo Rey students performing their own dance routine to "Footloose." To see a list of the competitors — and to vote for your favorite — check out cristoreykc.org. For more information, call Susie Sharkey at 816-457-6044.
