The make-believe world of fiendish creatures and surrealist landscapes haunts our subconscious well into adulthood. If you still haven't found the wild things, try the Kansas City Zoo. Saki monkeys, golden lion tamarins, white-cheeked gibbons — these are just a small sampling of the exotic wildlife that inhabits the Tropics, an indoor exhibit (6800 Zoo Drive, 816-513-5800). The Tropics, which is housed in the original zoo building that was erected in 1909, features 8,000 square feet of tropical plants and animals from South America, Asia and Africa. The exhibit opens today as part of the larger celebration of the Zoo's 100th anniversary. Bring the kids and your repressed psychic burdens and listen to these animals squawk like it's 1909. The zoo gates open at 9:30 a.m. Admission is $10.50 for adults and $7 for children ages 3 to 11.
