Singles dances are one thing. The singles event happening tonight at the Doubletree Hotel (10100 College Boulevard in Overland Park) goes beyond dancing. Singles Extravaganza 3 combines music by the band Platinum Express, more than 20 exhibitors and vendors, and keynote speaker Harold Ivan Smith. Oh, yeah, there's a cash bar, too. Organizer Don Davidson says, "We're aiming for any single that wants to come out." But he doesn't expect many twentysomethings; tonight's gathering is aimed more at the 35-and-older set. "We're giving them a wholesome activity for the evening and providing an opportunity to meet some new singles and have fun," he says. Davidson is a retired pastor and an expert on the uncoupled life. His pamphlet guide to singles groups in Kansas City is in its 11th edition, and he has published a book titled How to Build an Exciting Singles Ministry. Tonight's events begin with a mingle hour at 6 p.m. Smith will speak on "Handling the Single Season" at 8, and the band will start at 8:30. Tickets cost $20 at the door. Contact Davidson at don777@swbell.net for more information.
