Too many businesses on Troost have bloomed for a season or two and then withered like so many flowers after the first hard frost. But the East Side artery has one perennial source of hope. The Tulips on Troost movement is a dedicated band of green thumbs working to bring color to the Kansas City urban core. The George Harrison Memorial Foundation noticed. This year, the foundation donated a bumper crop of seeds, which students at Center High School have nursed in their greenhouse over the spring. Now those plants, including black-eyed Susans and purple coneflowers, are ready to take root on Troost. To join the volunteer planting event today from 10 a.m. to noon, meet at the Firehouse (4518 Troost) and be ready to get your hands dirty.
