Those with cynophobia should steer clear of the Country Club Plaza from 7 to 10:30 a.m. today — the plush shopping district will be overrun with dogs. Canine attendance for the 22nd-annual Dog-n-Jog, benefiting the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, is projected to hit 1,000. Other than the one- and two-mile runs and walks, festivities include agility demonstrations, a dog costume contest and pet photography. Vendors include Sheridan's, which will provide free puppy cones to four-legged customers. The Humane Society will also have animals available for adoption. "It's a perfect opportunity to bring your dog out for a dog-to-dog meeting," says Robin Rowland, the Humane Society's director of development. "There might be a love connection, and you might leave with a new best friend." Registration for the run-walk costs $25 in advance or $35 at the event and includes a T-shirt and a goodie bag. The Humane Society hopes to raise $55,000 for its no-kill shelter. For more information, see hsgkc.org.
