What animal has been more maligned over the past two decades than the poor, suffering hedgehog? The pitiable mammal has been the subject of hedgehog-flavored potato chips in Britain (true!) and has been anthropomorphized as a corporate video-game mascot. But that's the least of it. Who can forget the national panic when African pygmy hedgehogs were linked to a rare form of salmonella when a 10-month-old girl got sick at her family's hedgehog-breeding farm? Well, today's a chance for you to stand behind hedgehogs and declare that a few diseases and the wrath of Dr. Robotnik are small prices to pay for the love you get in return. Come to this year's Mid-West Hedgehog Show at the Shawnee Lodge #54 (11109 Johnson Drive). Hedgehogs will be judged on appearance, they will compete in the Hedgehog Games, and the general level of hedgehog awareness will be raised. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. See midwesthedgehogshow.9f.com for more information.
