Something about the Royals encourages thrift. Maybe it's the hard-to-escape parking charge or team owner David Glass' Wal-Mart fortune. Maybe it's the losing. In any case, there's a thrill to enjoying a baseball game at Kauffman Stadium (Interstate 70 and the Blue Ridge Cutoff) while spending as little money as possible. Monday nights offer budget-minded fans the equivalent of an early bird special, as some seats in the upper deck sell for just $5. Spectators looking to maximize the value of this promotion should ask for chairs in the View Level Infield section, where tickets normally cost $16. The thrifty-in-their-own-right Minnesota Twins provide the competition for tonight's 7:10 p.m. tilt. Call 1-800-676-9257.
