Stevie WonderBy Robert FolsomPublished on June 23, 2009 at 2:16pmStevie Wonder's visionary 1970s albums Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingness' First Finale and Songs in the Key of Life not only shaped his career but also fired up R&B and pop with funk and social consciousness. His song "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" became a crooner's dream and a soundtrack for elevators, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers amped up his "Higher Ground." And now Wonder is coming to Starlight Theatre. Granted, his later output has been spotty, and there have been some misfires (the "Ebony and Ivory" duet with Paul McCartney is the "Kumbaya" of Top 40-dom), but his cultural impact is assured. Now all he has to do are his hits — he has songbooks of them — and perform them ably. At prices from $45 to $350 — the ones that come up when you put in "2" and "Best Available" at kcstarlight.com — we should expect more than a call to say I love you.
