A movie based on the book Moneyball is apparently on again, with West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin taking a crack at the script. The 2003 book tells the story of Oakland A's General Manager Billy Beane, who built a low-budget contender by applying a form of arbitrage to player acquisition. (Beane looked for hitters with the ability to reach base, a skill other teams tended to undervalue.) Brad Pitt signed on to play Beane. Director Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich) left the project after the studio developed qualms about his adaptation. A current Royal, Mark Teahen, plays a part in the Moneyball story; Beane selected Teahen with the 39th pick in the 2002 amateur draft. The A's front office can monitor Teahen's progress in person this weekend, when Oakland arrives for a three-game series. Tonight's Royals-vs.-A's game at Kauffman Stadium (Interstate 70 and the Blue Ridge Cutoff) begins at 7:10 p.m. Call 816-504-4040.
