If you're not familiar with The Turnpike, you probably just don't live far enough west in Kansas. For the uninitiated, the long-running music television program (found on Channel 6 in Lawrence and Channel 42 in Topeka, or archived in full at Lawrence.com/turnpike) is part interview, part live performance and all kinds of awesome, especially because it splits its time pretty evenly between the local scene and nationally touring acts. On any given episode, viewers are just as likely to see an exclusive live set with Blitzen Trapper as a sit-down with This Is My Condition. For a little in-person taste of what the show has to offer, get to the first-ever The Turnpike Music Showcase, featuring the Appleseed Cast, Cowboy Indian Bear and Muscle Worship. Not surprisingly, The Turnpike will be taping it all for an upcoming episode — that's no excuse, though, not to get off the couch and see for yourself.
