For years, locals have been reporting paranormal sightings to the database at the Mutual UFO Network. MUFON’s Web site lets viewers look up reports by county. Here are some highlights from Missouri and Kansas:

Suburban Kansas City, May 10, 2008:

“My wife and I were sitting in our driveway during a neighborhood garage sale. My wife noticed the object when it was almost overhead. She thought it was a child’s balloon going over, then she wanted me to look because it looked strange. To me it looked much like a large weather balloon. Its altitude seemed very high because it had a blue haze like something you see in the distance. It moved from the north to the south in a straight pattern. It was not an airplane and moved too fast for a high altitude balloon… My wife who does not really believe in such things as UFOs seemed concerned over what it was.”

Johnson County, Kansas, May 6, 2008:

“A friend and I were sitting in the orchard of my back yard of my house last night (May 6th), around 7:40 p.m. Only a small segment of the sky was visible where we were sitting. Suddenly, a small black object appeared above the trees from the northeast. It was, to the naked eye, about the size of a dime or nickel and couldn't have been more than 150' to 250' feet about the ground… I thought it had the appearance of a toy balloon with a string coming out the bottom but what little wind there was came from the SW -- the opposite direction in which the object was flying. The trajectory was level and the object didn't deviate in the slightest from its SW course. This was no toy. It disappeared from view when it passed over the trees behind us to the SW.”

Jackson County, March 30, 2008:

“At 10 am as I just lay down in bed with my wife, who just returned from working the night shift as a nurse, I had a feeling I was being watched. Then I saw a disc-shaped, white color UFO approaching me overhead at an angle towards me … The object was flat on the bottom with a domed top and had a light or lights around the dome with black areas between the lights that reminded me of windows … There is also a lot of paranormal activity in the house which may or may not be related to these objects.”

Jackson County, January 28, 2008:

“I was driving at about 11:00 when I noticed some lights in the sky. There were 6 lights that blinked in no certain order. I noticed the object because the lights were extremely bright. At first I thought that it was just an airplane but then I realized that the lights were far too big and the object was flying far too low to be an airplane (plus I'm about an hour away from the nearest airport)… When I saw the object I completely lost all sense of time and where I was, I was so interested in the object. After it disappeared I immediately called my boyfriend and tears filled my eyes out of fear that everyone would think I was crazy.”

Independence, Missouri, June 20, 2007:

“It was dark outside, but not pitch dark -- and light was coming out of the sliding doors on the porch so the area had some illumination, but what I could see was as a black outline of a person and he was walking strangely. Then I noticed that my car was missing. I said, ‘Wait a minute, where is Gene?’ to my brother and daughter. They said, ‘He must have left in your car.’ At that point, I got a very creepy scary feeling and actually started to shake. Now I don't scare too easily, but this was different. As I thought about it I realized that whatever it was had long arms down to the knees and swung his arms in an odd manner, more like what an ape would do, and I realized at that point that it could not have been my husband that I saw!”
