Coming soon to a theater near you: Food, Inc.

Posted by on Wed, Apr 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM

Is the food industry out of control? That is the message of the new film Food, Inc., directed by Robert Kenner, whose work up to this point has mainly consisted of television films and commercials, including work for Hallmark.

Unlike Fast Food Nation (the movie, not the book), Food, Inc. is a strict documentary. Variety said it "does for the supermarket what Jaws did for the beach."

The film is co-produced by Fast Food Nation author Eric Schlosser and was funded by Participant Media, which was also was behind An Inconvenient Truth. If Food, Inc. is as powerful as its trailer suggests, then it should also greatly increase awareness of food practices.

Unlike Beer Wars, it looks as if Food, Inc.

has picked a properly evil villain in large-production farms and the

unnatural food and hormones they give animals, which leads to diseases

like salmonella and E. coli. A subject this blog knows all too well.

It is scheduled to be released in theaters June 12.
