If you've pledged to become a better cook or drinker in 2010, you have lots of options over the next month.

It's time you upped your brunch game at the Culinary Center of Kansas City's "hands on" homemade cinnamon rolls class.

If you have an eight or nine-inch pan and $50, the secret to weekend

nirvana is yours. The class is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to

12:30 p.m.

If not sweet, then savory. CCKC Executive Chef Matt Chatfield leads a pork lover's paradise class with his wife, Chef Sophia Chatfield, on Sunday. They'll show you how to make a four-course meal of pork dishes, including a pulled pork tamale with mole sauce and dessert with chocolate and bacon. The class runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and is $50.

At the end of the month, the Cooking Studio adjacent to the Whole Foods in Overland Park has two classes you might want to check out. On Wednesday, January 27, there's a course on beer and cheese pairings led by Neil Witte (the field quality manager and former brewer from Boulevard Brewery) and Emma Marshall and Anna Smith, the cheese specialists at Whole Foods. The class is $30, and runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The next night is soup night, as Cordon Blue-trained chef and caterer Paige Vandegrift leads a class on preparing simple winter soups. Vandegrift shows participants how to make Vegetable Barley, Gingered Carrot, Creamy Tomato with gorgonzola toasts and White Bean with sausage and swiss chard soup; she'll also impart some knife skills. The class is $30, and runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, UMKC's Communiversity

offers a trio of beverage-related classes in the next month. Andrew

Bales leads a two-part class on how to homebrew ($24, February 6, 2:30

to 5 p.m.). Keith Buchanan teaches you to make drinking chocolate from

scratch during a single session ($24, January 27, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.).

And Habte Mesfin taps into his Ethiopian roots to provide a primer on

the history of coffee and how to crew and cup your own java ($19,

February 10, 6 to 8 p.m.)
