Fred Phelps' estranged son holds closet door for dad

Posted by on Fri, Apr 2, 2010 at 11:05 AM

The estranged son of homophobic preacher man Fred Phelps granted his first television interview to a Canadian news magazine. Nate Phelps told Peter Klein of The Standard current-affairs program that he believes his father displays the signs of being a "sociopath" and the Westboro Baptist Church is cult-like.

Credit Klein for asking Nate whether he had ever witnessed anything that

would point to Fred Phelps repressing his own homosexuality.

"There just isn't anything there in my own experiences growing up there

that would suggest that," Nate Phelps said. "In fact, there was

absolutely no discussion of sexuality in any sense, other than that

condemnation from behind the pulpit."

Nate Phelps added, "He reads it [the Bible] that homosexuality is the ultimate defiance of god and that's the source of this."

Klein and Phelps cover a whole lot more in the 31-minute interview, which is worth watching.

Nate Phelps, who lives in British Columbia, is also slated to be a guest speaker at the Million Fag March rally against Westboro at the Gage Park Amphitheater in Topeka on May 1.
