Napoleon has marched out of Westport
Two weeks ago, pastry chef and restaurateur James Holmes opened a new Napoleon Bakery in Overland Park. He took over a long-vacant location at 6759 W. 119th Street that had most recently been occupied by the excellent Artisan Francais: A French Bakery. Holmes also closed the old Napoleon Bakery, the iconic cafe in Westport that he bought from the Schanzer family and re-opened in late 2008.

That's a bittersweet decision for Westport, where Napoleon Bakery

had been a fixture since the 1990s. But Holmes moves around nearly as

much as the bakery's namesake, old Napoleon Bonaparte himself. Not long

after re-opening the Westport location, Holmes was offered the

opportunity to open a second Napoleon's location in Briarcliff Village.

That venue didn't last and Holmes moved out; that space is now Sugar Mamma's Bakery.

The new Napoleon Bakery address has yet to appear on the venue's website, which still refers to its Westport location. I imagine Holmes will get around to changing that before he moves yet again.
