  • Rain not Rockfest is blamed for moving Pride out of Penn Valley Park.

The damage in Penn Valley Park is forcing Kansas City's Pride Festival Week (May 31 through June 6) to move to Richard L Berkley Riverfront Park.

The announcement is slated to be made at a 2:30 p.m. press conference.

Mayor Mark Funkhouser spoke of the mythologized "Kansas City spirit" in a press release.

"The Kansas City

spirit is to help out a neighbor, and this is an excellent example of

that spirit in action," Funkhouser said.

The press release oddly blames the change on "recent rains," failing to mention that butt rock enthusiasts exacerbated the problem, turning the park's hills into mudslides at last weekend's Rockfest. Just take a look at the aftermath.

Pride's organizers seem cool with the change.

"When we were scrambling

to find a location for our festival -- they called us,"  Pride president

Rick

Bumgardner said of Riverfront Park officials. "And for that we

are so grateful. It's going to be a great year for Pride!"
