Smokers and fresh-air lovers can now coexist this summer, thanks to a number of new patios around Kansas City.
The Drop has a new deck space, which owner Eddie Crane had been hoping to unveil last summer. The drink of the moment at the Martini Corner restaurant is a sparkling blueberry lemonade martini. Happy hour is from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Reverse happy hour:10 p.m. to close Sunday through Thursday.
The 75th Street Brewery has opened the Alley -- a beer garden in the former Kennedy's space. The space is partly covered and has a complete bar, so you don't have to wait for your Cow Town Wheat. Tuesday is 2-for-1 burger day. After 10 p.m., you can get a draft beer for $1.
Don't forget about Randal's Rooftop, which opened in March at Kelly's Westport Inn. Happy hour runs from 3 to 7 p.m. Joe's Pizza -- in the back of Kelly's -- has an extended food menu from 4 to 9 p.m.
From your perch atop Kelly's, you can see the newly renovated deck outside McCoy's Public House. Meatloaf and chicken-fried steak are the specials tonight, along with $2.50 pints. Ask for a taster of the ginger shandy. It's great on a humid summer evening.
The beer garden at the Westside Local is also open for the season. Share an arugula and beet salad or a plate of thin steak frites out on the long wooden tables. Wash it down with some of Bell's Kalamazoo Stout or Berliner Weisse 1809.
On the Kansas side, Cafe Roux in Leawood's Park Place has opened its patio. Oysters on the half shell are 50 cents from 4 to 7 p.m. The Cajun seafood restaurant opened at the end of April and is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
