A little bit of Manhattan comes to Shawnee tonight. Tallgrass Brewing Co. co-founder Jeff Gill is leading a beer tasting at Barley's Brewhaus (16649 Midland Drive). The tasting kicks off at 7 p.m. and includes all of the beers from the craft brewer paired with a menu designed by the brewpub.

You'll get the chance to try five of the Manhattan brewer's beers over three courses. In lieu of an amuse bouche, you can sample the Tallgrass Kold. The first course pairs the Oasis ESB with an arugula salad topped with candied pecans in walnut-chive oil. The second course is Tallgrass IPA served with a skewer of Serrano sausage, roasted garlic and fontina cheese. Dessert is the Tallgrass Ale and tiramisu. A nightcap of Buffalo Sweat Stout is also included.

Tickets cost $15 for mug-club members, $20 for nonmembers. Call 913-268-5160 to reserve a spot. The evening will be hosted by Gill -- who founded Tallgrass in 2007 with his wife, Tricia.

Tallgrass made headlines earlier this year when Gill announced that he was switching from bottles to cans in his Canifesto. The 16-ounce cans are in stores now, including the latest -- Oasis - an IPA with 93 IBUs and 7.2 percent alcohol by volume. Tallgrass is also on tap at the Flying Saucer, Swagger, Johnny's Tavern (Overland Park location) and Waldo Pizza.
