Five modern copycat songs: A list inspired by Katy Perry, Kesha and Lady Gaga

This is a pro-pop-music blog, but there's undeniably hella thievin' going on in pop music these days. What's worse, nobody seems afraid of getting caught. So we've compiled a list of recent sound-a-like offenders, complete with audio proof.

Boys Like Girls had a pseudo-hit last year with "Love Drunk." The chorus is a blatant rip-off of the Killers' "Somebody Told Me." Here's "Love Drunk." Chorus comes in at 0:51.

"Somebody Told Me," by the Killers. Chorus at 1:10.

Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" has been burning up the charts. Surely she should cut Ace of Base a check for that one, no?

"Don't Turn Around," Ace of Base.

We touched on the connection between "Tik Tok," "California Gurls," and the Miley song. It's a popular template -- have a listen to "Just Dance" by Gaga and "In My Head"  by Jason DeRulo. The choruses are EXACTLY the same. DeRulo says "my head" where Gaga says "just dance," and that's the only difference.

"Just Dance" chorus at 0:47 (like you don't know what the chorus sounds like already):

"In My Head," Jason DeRulo. Chorus at 0:45 -- two seconds off from when Gaga's chorus comes in, by the way.

The kids these days sure love Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' hippie throwback show. Do they like it so much because he steals Journey hooks?

Edward Sharpe, "40 Day Dream." Wait for 1:16. (It's clearer on this live version.)

Journey, "Lights." You know it's coming: 1:02.

And finally, terrible French DJ David Guetta and former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland had a Eurotrash dance hit last year with "When Love Takes Over." As you will see by simply pressing play, Guetta brazenly lifted the opening piano hook from Coldplay.

Guetta:

Coldplay:

This could go on for days. What'd I miss?
