Fox 4 is reporting that a 105-pound gorilla chimpanzee is on
the loose in Kansas City, and last seen at 77th and Indiana breaking out
the windows of a cop car. For real. There's a link to the story and everything.
Update I: The chimpanzee has been captured. The owner coaxed it back into its cage, Fox 4
reports. There seems to be conflicting reports on how much the chimp
weighs though. KSHB's scale says 350 pounds.
Update II: These pics of the chimp are on Chief Corwin's blog.
Update III: Guess it wasn't a gorilla after all. Sueko, the 300-pound
chimpanzee that escaped near 77th and Indiana yesterday, had a helluva
day, reportedly
flipping off an animal control officer and karate kicking a police
car's windshield.
The 21-year-old chimpanzee has been taken to Monkey Island, a primate sanctuary in Greenwood, according to the Star. Wait. There's a place called Monkey Island in Missouri? That sounds awesome (and it's even better hearing KMBC's Kris Ketz say, "We're live from Monkey Island." Of course you are).
Sounds like the city doesn't want Sueko to be reunited with her owner, Mark Archigo, who has been in and out of legal trouble over the chimp since 1995. Archigo was reportedly cited yesterday for keeping a dangerous animal inside the city limits.
Update IV: Sueko the chimp is making a permanent move to the Kansas City Zoo.
Sueko's owner, Mark Archigo, has been cited by the city for allegedly keeping the chimp within city limits. If losing his chimp wasn't enough, he's also facing a $500 fine and up to 180 days in jail
If you missed out on all of this monkey business, Newsy.com compiled a bunch of footage from Sueko's escape.
