Tyler E. Toomay may be the worst grandson of the year. The 18-year-old told police that he and his grandmother, Connie
J. Searing, got into a fight in Searing's bedroom early November that led to her killing.
Searing and Toomay took turns throwing a lamp at each other. Searing tired to get
out of bed but fell and hit her head on a nightstand.
Toomay told police that he put a trash bag over Searing's head and duct taped it. He also bound her feet with tape and wrapped her in a blanket. The next day, he told police that he used a tractor to dig a grave and bury her body.
This apparently didn't stop Toomay from trying to cover his tracks. He filed a missing persons report, which led police to Searing's home on November 13.
Authorities found the 62-year-old woman's body buried under a gravel pile in a field near her
Pleasant Hill home at 30106 East County
Line Road. A bible had been placed on top of the rocks.
The Jackson County Medical Examiner determined Searing's death was caused by a cervical spine fracture due to blunt force trauma with strangulation.
Toomay is charged with second-degree murder. Toomay is also accused of stealing and selling his grandmother's television to a
