UPDATE: Multiple news outlets are reporting that the man who died after a fight was 31-year-old Doug Tipton of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Read the update after the jump ...
A fight broke out at Kona Grill on the Plaza last night, and now one of the fighters is dead and police are calling the man's death "suspicious."
Fox 4 reports that witnesses saw three men fighting with the victim inside the restaurant sometime between 11 p.m. and midnight. The fight broke up and the three men called a cab to leave the scene -- but they weren't done partying.
Where did they go? Well, police tracked down the cabbie that gave the three suspects a ride, and he told police that he dropped one of the guys off at The Shady Lady, a strip club (if you can still call it that after Missouri's outlawing of naked boobs and lap dances) on 12th Street. The other two guys, they cabbed it to O'Dowds Irish Pub on the Plaza.
Kansas City police rounded up all three men, and they were taken into custody for questioning.
As for the victim, police found him in critical condition -- and he died after being rushed
to a local hospital. Police believe the fight might have
triggered a seizure in the victim, but they're still piecing that
If the man's death is ruled a homicide, it'll be Kansas City, Missouri's 100th of 2010.
UPDATE: The Star reports that four men between the ages of 27 and 31 were arrested. However, police are waiting for a ruling from the Jackson County Medical Examiner. And the Star reports that witnesses claimed that Tipton was upset with someone in Kona, which led to at least one punch being thrown, and Tipton had a seizure following the fight.
More when we know it.
