When the the state of Kansas placed the 16-year-old girl in protective custody with the girl's maternal grandmother, Barbara Porter helped her husband get the girl out so he could run away to California with her.
Barbara Porter, 45, pleaded guilty today to obstruction of justice for
trying to cover up her husband's sexual abuse of her daughter.
alleged that Patrick and Barbara Porter met at an Overland Park Wal-Mart
on June 3. From there, Patrick Porter and Barbara Porter's daughter left the big box store's parking lot in a
2003 Ford Expedition with a duffel bag full of clothes and $3,000 in
cash. An Amber Alert was issued for the girl.
On June 9, investigators learned that Patrick Porter had
used his credit
card June 6-8 at a Best Western in Huntington Beach,
California. Phone records also showed that Barbara Porter had received calls
from the hotel.
Patrick Porter was arrested in San Diego where
he was found with his stepdaughter. At that time, federal prosecutors
had charged Porter with possessing child pornography and engaging in
graphic conversations with a minor in an attempt to convince the child
to have sex with him.
In November, Patrick Porter has since pleaded guilty to producing child pornography.
His sentencing is scheduled for February 15, 2011.
Prosecutors are seeking a 20-year sentence.
Barbara Porter's sentencing is scheduled for May 3 with prosecutors recommending a 60-month sentence in federal prison. May she rot.
