Tannin Wine Bar and Kitchen will open for lunch today in the former JP Wine Bar space (1526 Walnut).
Fat City talked to executive chef Brian Aaron last month about the new restaurant, which will have some lighter options alongside a few JP favorites. Tannin will begin with lunch service from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. before adding a dinner seating, likely later this month.
The lunch menu has a number of options, although wine isn't one of them because Tannin hasn't yet received its liquor license. But you can expect general manager Barry Tunnell to have an extensive wine program in the near future. Below is a peek at some of the dishes on the new lunch menu.
Small Bites ($5, or three for $12): Pommes frites with truffle aioli, housemade chips, or pickled eggs and veggies.
Cheese ($6, or three for $15): Drunken Goat, Buttermilk Blue, or Rosemary Romao.
Starters ($5 to $11): Steamed mussels with fennel, fresh herbs, white wine and a baguette, and the house salad of parmesan bowl, field greens, tomatoes, goat cheese, and champagne vinaigrette.
Lunch Salads & Sandwiches ($8 to $12 with chips/pommes frites): Pan-fried chicken liver salad with bibb lettuce wedge, shaved red onions, bacon and spicy buttermilk vinaigrette or the Tannin 8 oz. wagyu burger with a fried egg, smoked cheddar, crispy bacon and everything bun.
Large Plates ($11 to $17): Butternut squash risotto with sauteed swiss chard, toasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin oil drizzle or the slow-braised beef short ribs with sour-cream mashed potatoes, grandma's green beans and frizzled onions.
