Whopper Bar -- the more upscale burger restaurant from the fast-food mavens who brought you Burger King -- is scheduled to open this week at 1350 Walnut in the Kansas City Power & Light District, the space formerly occupied by Chef Burger.
The new franchise is only the seventh worldwide, with other locations from New York to Singapore. Before you run away with dreams of getting down on the dance floor with a BK Broiler in hand, keep in mind that the restaurant's name is more suggestive of its premium toppings bar than the atmosphere. Not all locations even offer alcoholic beverages, but diners in Kansas City
will be able to enjoy Miller-Coors beer products with their meals.

The main idea behind Whopper Bar is the customizable experience that Burger King captured in its "Have It Your Way" slogan: Customers will place their orders, and then a Whopper-ista will build it with their toppings of choice in a Subway-style assembly line.
The Bar boasts more than 30 different toppings, including guacamole and crispy onions. There will also be ready-to-eat options such as the BK Black & Bleu Steakhouse XT, which is covered in bleu cheese and blackened Cajun sauce.
There is no word yet of whether the franchise will follow the example of the New York Pizza Burger in the Times Square location and offer a Kansas City exclusive, but Burger King spokeswoman Arianne Cento says it is a possibility. Maybe an Arthur Bryant's barbecue burger?
The grand opening will be Friday, March 25. The restaurant will be open seven days a week.
