Taco Bell testing taco shells made from Doritos?

I've had walking tacos and Frito pies. I understand that humans want to elevate corn chips into an entire meal. But sometimes you have to accept that a food is a side dish for a reason and allow it to shine in a complementary role. Taco Bell didn't get the memo.

Foodbeast writes that the fast-food chain is apparently testing Doritos Locos Tacos -- taco shells made of nacho cheese Doritos. This comes only five months after Doritos released a limited-edition Taco flavor.

While there's no indication that they're available locally (anybody seen them?) -- Wichita feels like a natural test market for this kind of thing -- GrubGrade writes that the shells are loose in Toledo, Ohio. Although Taco Bell has experimented with different flavors and colors of taco shell, the Volcano and Black Jack Taco most recently, this is the first branded hard taco they've introduced. Could a store kit, make-it-at-home version, be far behind?

Last week, Taco Bell introduced a new taco to its menu -- the cheesy double decker taco. Perhaps the nacho cheese sauce filling can help make this a gateway taco, taking something familiar in the double decker (a flour tortilla and refried beans wrapped around a hard shell taco) and moving it closer into the nacho cheese arena.

If the Doritos Locos Tacos make it to market, then Taco Bell will be one step closer to its ultimate goal: a single menu item that encompasses all of the ingredients behind the counter.

Is this your dream or nightmare taco?
