The MidCoast Cares Joplin Benefit, last night at Crosstown Station

It's a real bummer about Crosstown Station closing in September; last night's Joplin benefit was a pleasant reminder of the venue's potential. Hard to think of another club in town with the capacity to host such a big event so comfortably. But I guess it's kind of like how girls always like you better once you're in a relationship? Or how your hair always looks good on the way to the barber?

What the hell am I talking about. Let's discuss the show.

the band was rollicking and sweet, like always.

Their songs are fresh and sturdy, and the band just seems to keep getting tighter and tighter. "Shout-out to the cupcakes," said vocalist/keyboardist Katlyn Conroy between two of the songs.

It's true, there were cupcakes and many other baked goods available. Now that I think about it, I can't believe I didn't eat any. Look at all those treats. Oh man, I am starving.

Finally, special props to whoever was working sound: great mix all night. Oh! And props to everybody who came out for a good cause and to the bands and to the organizers. A fine evening for KC music fans!
