If your IT guy is singing sea chanties this morning and your neighbor's walking your dog in a matching pair of skull-and-crossbone bandanas, you're not losing it. Today, September 19, is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. As a result, things might get a little weird.

But since you can't beat pirates (seriously, ask the music industry), you might as well enjoy the only pirate-themed holiday of the year. And so, Fat City presents five local eats and drinks in honor of scalawags everywhere.

5. Long John Silver's — it's the only place in town with a pirate in the title. Our recommendation? Sneak in a flask. That's what a real pirate would want you to do.

4. Coda (1744 Broadway) — rum and Coke. Pirates drink rum, and if you want a pour designed for heavyweights, this neighborhood bar and grill is a good bet.

3. Pirtle Winery's Mead — The Weston winery's mead is (thankfully) readily available in Kansas City. In lieu of actual grog, this sweet dessert wine works well with a bit of cheese and fruit.

2. Chapala Restaurante Mexicano (5224 E. Truman Rd.) — fish tacos. The fish tacos are typically offered as a special with chopped onion, cilantro and plenty of flavor, or snag a tostada with lime-marinated tilapia.

1. Marina Grog & Gallery (22 A Street, Lee's Summit) — The seafood restaurant on Lake Lotawana is the kind of place that could make you understand the allure of living on a boat. With a focus on Hawaiian seafood like Mahi Mahi and grog in the title, how could you go wrong?

What are your plans?
