The Mistress of the Dark is coming home ... sort of. Scream queen Elvira will be making an appearance at The Beast Thursday night from 8 until midnight, so you can get an autograph and your photo taken with the horror vixen.

Elvira made the announcement on her Twitter account (yes, even the horror hostess tweets). Elvira had to cancel an appearance at Nightstalkers Scream Park in Excelsior Springs last night.

This will be a bit of a homecoming for Elvira.

Cassandra Peterson, the actress who plays Elvira, was born in Manhattan, Kansas, and grew up in nearby Randolph, until the area was flooded to create the Turtle Creek Reservoir.

The Kansas City Star noted that Elvira hasn't forgotten about her Kansas roots (in a story from June that is now locked behind a paywall): Manhattan was the setting for her 1993 sitcom pilot.

“Katherine Helmond (Soap) and I were witches who were running from the law and had to go to somewhere as obscure as humanly possible,” Elvira told the Star. “I think that Manhattan kind of fills that bill.”

Also dropping by The Beast will be the folks at Nightwatch, the locally produced syndicated paranormal radio show.
