Kansas City, Missouri's homicide total was at 101 before Thanksgiving weekend. By the end of the weekend, there were five more killings in the city.

Antonio Thompson was the first. On the eve of Thanksgiving, the 26-year-old was found dead inside a home in the 3700 block of East 47th Terrace. Thompson's family member requested a check on him after they were unable to contact him. Thompson was found dead inside his home. Police deemed his death "suspicious," and homicide detectives are investigating.

More killings would come Thanksgiving night.

Thanksgiving night saw police officers shoot and kill 64-year-old Jerry Petty after being called to a robbery at 66th and Bellefontaine around 10 p.m. Police say Petty confronted them when they arrived and fired shots. Officers returned fire and killed Petty. An Operation 100 was called, and tactical units securing the address of the original call found the bodies of 16-year-old Deja Davis and 53-year-old Loretta Petty. A woman was arrested at the scene, but she was released and will not be charged, police say. NBC Action News says Davis, a sophomore at Ruskin High School, was visiting Loretta Petty, her godmother.

Police were working another suspicious death on Saturday afternoon. The body of 56-year-old Denise Hall was found at 2916 East 69th Street. A family member doing a check found Hall dead inside her home. Homicide detectives are also working this case.
