Who or what is your sidekick? My sidekick is Serviner Willis (Mama Vene); I call her my Kansas City mom.
What career would you choose in an alternate reality? If money were no object, I would own a dish store and travel the world buying unusual and exquisite dishes, glasses, tablecloths, and all the extras my customers would need to set a beautiful table.
What was the last local restaurant you patronized? McCormick & Schmick’s
Where do you drink? LattéLand. I’ll take a vanilla latte anytime.
Favorite place to spend a significant portion of your paycheck: My husband and I spend our money on cruises to places like the Caribbean and Alaska.
What’s your favorite charity? Please don’t make me choose just one. Back in the Swing, Cancer Action and the Susan G. Komen Foundation all reached out and helped me during my recent five-month battle with breast cancer. Now I’m a breast-cancer survivor, and I want to help these organizations help other women fighting breast cancer.
Where do you like to take out-of-town guests? Gates Bar-B-Q

What is your most embarrassing dating moment? When my husband, Ed, and I were dating, I took him to the Crown Center ice-skating rink, thinking I would impress him with my skating skills. Unfortunately, I kept falling, and Ed had to help me up. I think Ed started to fall on the ice deliberately just to make me feel better. We kept falling and laughing — we never really skated that day. A year later, we were married. Ten years later, we’re still married and still laughing.
Interesting brush with the law? I’ll never forget the kind highway patrolman who stopped me for speeding on Christmas Eve. He showed mercy and didn’t give me a ticket.
Describe a recent triumph: January 1 is my victory day. I returned to work after a five-month battle with breast cancer. I am happy to say I am a breast-cancer survivor.
