RA Sushi (11638 Ash) is holding its third anniversary party tonight. It’s a salute to the 1980s and a benefit for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City. The party starts at 8 p.m. with a DJ spinning '80s tunes and with era-appropriate eats and drinks. There’s the Goonie Roll (a California roll with red and green tempura bits) and a Pretty in Pink Martini for $5. And, yes, they’ll have wine coolers ($3).
If you feel like you’re in a dining rut, Parkville is an easy escape. Take the short drive for the Parkville Days Riverfest, which runs today through Sunday. It’s a collection of food, crafts, carnival rides, live music and a Saturday parade. The beer tent is open the same hours as the festival: Friday (6-10 p.m.), Saturday (10 a.m.-10 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.-6 p.m.). Admission is free, as is parking (available at Park University and the English Landing Centre).
The Power & Light District's Summer Restaurant Week kicks off today and runs through Sunday, August 26. The event is similar to last year's promotion with $10-$15 lunches and $25-$30 dinners at 13 restaurants. For lunch, try the cup of lobster bisque and a flatiron-steak salad at the Bristol (51 E. 14th St.). For dinner, go for the fresh lump crab cake, braised pork and Irish bread pudding at the Dubliner (170 E. 14th St.). Purchasing a meal gets you a $5 gift card at lunch and a $10 gift card at dinner to be used the next time you dine at the same restaurant.
The fourth annual Summer Pie Fest is Saturday at RecordBar (1020 Westport Road). Bring your best entry — it's free to compete — and a written recipe by 2 p.m.
