Sporting Kansas City announced today that it had signed Ecuadorian and Argentinian striker Claudio Bieler, who just wrapped up the season as the second highest goal scorer in Ecuador's top league. The 28-year-old is leaving the club LDU Quito, where he owns the team record for career goals with 71 in 155 games. This is good news even for the casual Sporting fan, because he scores goals. In 2009, he led the league in scoring with 22 goals. And an electric scoring forward will be a welcome addition to Sporting, which scored 42 goals in 34 games last season, which was 12th most in the league.
Sporting also announced that it will start next season on March 2 at Philadelphia, and host the Chicago Fire on March 16 for their home opener at Livestrong Sporting Park.
And now, highlights! In the above clip, Sporting coach Peter Vermes talking about why he wanted to sign Bieler. After the jump there's a clip of a hat trick Bieler scored earlier this year.
In this video, Bieler (whose nickname is El Taca") scores the final three goals.
