Jabulani Leffall, the former host of KCUR 89.3's Central Standard program who abruptly resigned on-air January 16, says he's not in hiding. He also says he won't discuss his departure from the public-radio station.

In a statement e-mailed to The Pitch, Leffall said:

"My motivations for my actions were neither premeditated nor of malicious intent in leaving KCUR. And officially, I won't comment on my reasons for leaving or the manner in which I resigned. Further, The General Manager and Program Director and myself made a 'gentlemen's' agreement not to discuss internal matters and I plan to hold up my end of the bargain."

Reached by phone late Monday afternoon, Leffall added that he is not in hiding, as some media observers have suggested. In fact, Leffall said he's been attending high-profile events and said he would be attending a meeting hosted by Mayor Sly James Monday evening to kick off the Mayor's Task Force for the Arts Monday night.

"I went to Party Arty and shook hands with Julián [Zugazagoitia, director of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art]. I was at Literacy KC today," he said. "No, man, I'm not hiding at all."

He also said he has no plans of trying to return to Central Standard. "It's over. I'm not doing it no more. I'm done. It's done," he said.
