Terms of Bowe's contract weren't released. The wide receiver missed three games last season with a rib injury and made $9.5 million. In Bowe's seven seasons, all spent with the Chiefs, he has caught 415 passes, averaging 13.8 yards per catch and 39 touchdowns. His impact on the Chiefs stands to increase now that the Chiefs have traded for quarterback Alex Smith.
The Chiefs also used their franchise tag on left tackle Branden Albert. Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said in a press release that the team wanted to lock up Albert for the long term. "We will continue to negotiate with Branden and his agent to reach a deal that is mutually beneficial. We are looking forward to working with Branden in the near future," the statement said, according to ESPN.
