The results for 2012, culled together from more than 100,000 reviews and 3,800 people, include a familiar spot to diners in Kansas City: The American Restaurant is ranked 43rd on this year's list. Niche in St. Louis, at 71, is the only other area restaurant to be included.
Manresa in Los Gatos, California, earned the top spot, displacing the French Laundry, which had been OAD's top restaurant for four years running. In a list that includes restaurants from David Chang, Grant Achatz, Jose Andres, and Dan Barber, the American's Debbie Gold earns high praise in her restaurant's write-up:
Debbie Gold's cooking, best described as a "luxurious version of New American cuisine," revolves around a "superb and original command of ingredients" that includes dishes like Campo Lindo 63-degree egg with porcini, summer truffle and rice pudding and duck breast with turnips, pickled blueberries and pumpernickel jus.
Do you believe any other Kansas City restaurants should be considered in the top 100 of the U.S.? If you do, you can let OAD know - they're taking registrations for the 2013 survey.
