"Power & Light is an excellent opportunity for our next expansion," said Bread & Butter Concepts owner Alan Gaylin in a release. "We've been waiting for the right place to expand into, and this is it. The scene is right, the space is right, and we're excited to get to work."
This marks a return of the local burger shop to the Power and Light District. Burger King's Whopper Bar took over the former Chef Burger space in March 2011. The original BRGR concept opened in the Corinth Square Shopping Center in March 2010 (you can read Charles Ferruzza's review here). Since then, the local restaurant group has added Urban Table (also in Corinth), as well as Gram & Dun, an American gastropub, on the Plaza.
Bread & Butter Concepts also announced a name change this week for its latest restaurant currently under construction. Big Papi Tacos, which is looking at a spring opening at 500 County Line Road in Kansas City, Kansas (across from the original Oklahoma Joe's), will now be known as Taco Republic. The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office suggested that Big Papi was a nickname too closely associated with Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz.
