The Magical Meatball Tour has stopped rolling. One of the city's first food trucks, funded by a Kickstarter campaign and a series of bakesale-esque meatball events, will not be returning to the Kansas City streets this season.

"After two seasons, we have decided to close the Magical Meatball Tour," says co-owner Venus Van Horn, who ran the truck with Ceasar Reyes. "It was an amazing experience, and we are proud to have been a small part of the new generation of food trucks in Kansas City."

The Magical Meatball Tour was a regular at the Truck Stop in the Crossroads, the food-truck gathering at 21st Street and Wyandotte on First Fridays, and did a guest tour at Czar downtown. It was also the only truck in town with a bonafide meatball barker, a gentleman in a bowler hat that made customers feel like they were entering a carnivore's carnival. Van Horn is now working as the social-media director for Italian Gardens, and Reyes is a chef at Anton's Taproom & Restaurant.

"While the city is beginning to embrace its food trucks, the truth is, for us, it just wasn't sustainable as a day-to-day operation," Van Horn says. "We'll miss the camaraderie with our other food-truck families and wish them all the best. What we will miss most are the wonderful people we met. We had the most amazing supporters. We honestly never had a bad customer. How many people in the food industry can say that? It was a great ride."
