Kentucky Derby week is a special time. It's a chance to don a goofy hat or a seersucker suit and enjoy a mint julep or six. Tavern in the Village (3901 Prairie Lane, Prairie Village) and Tavern at Mission Farms (10681 Mission, Leawood) are hosting derby parties from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday. They'll be serving Thai Tavern juleps made with bourbon from Dark Horse Distillery, as well as Kentucky Hot Brown sandwiches, shrimp and grits, and Kentucky Derby Burgoo stew. There will also be an extended happy hour that includes $2.50 bottles of beer, $5 martinis and Manhattans and BBQ pulled-pork sliders.

Port Fonda (4141 Pennsylvania) has a Cinco de Mayo party on Sunday with $5 24-oz. cans of Tecate, 16-oz. Dos Equis drafts, and Milagro shots. Milagro margaritas cost $10. Brunch is available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and DJ Mike Scott plays from noon to 6 p.m.

The Missouri Life Festival is a way to eat your way across the state without leaving Kansas City. The Saturday event at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and features tastes of everything from Berry Nutty Farm's fruit butter to Copper Run Distillery's Moonshine. Tickets cost $20.

Throw some pierogi on your to-do list. Polski Day is Saturday from 12 to 7 p.m. The annual free celebration that has a cornucopia of Polish food is at All Saints Parish (811 Vermont) in Kansas City, Kansas.

Two words you don't often hear together are kosher and barbecue. But the Torah Learning Center (8800 West 103rd Street, Overland Park) is serving up Real Kosher BBQ from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The buffet is $35 and includes ribs, chicken, beans and apple cobbler.

What have you got on tap for the weekend?
