The Guardian Angels Parish throws one heck of a free party every year. The annual Parish Festival is set for Sunday from 12 to 8 p.m. Play carnival games, join in the White Elephant sale and listen to live music, then eat your way through a huge array of sweet and savory options: snow cones, the dessert table (think homemade pies and cakes), hot dogs and brats, and plenty of Mexican cuisine.
You just have to hold out a little longer for tomatoes. But while you're waiting, you can stuff yourself silly with other fruits (in the form of baked goods) and vegetables at the Rosedale Farmers Market (4020 Rainbow Boulevard, Kansas City, Kansas). The market is now open Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it's holding a bake sale Sunday, June 2, with proceeds going to Heart to Heart International's relief efforts in Oklahoma.
It's summer and that means it's milkshake season. (Although to be honest, milkshakes are good at any temperature and whenever the mood strikes.) Sonic offers a multitude of milkshakes to choose from this summer with its 25 flavors, including peanut butter and bacon. The hand-mixed shakes are half-price after 8 p.m., which means that nobody has to see you order an Elvis (a peanut butter, bacon and banana shake).
The best part of art fairs is often the eats. The Prairie Village Art Fair kicks off today from 5 to 8 p.m. and runs through Sunday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.). It's open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a pancake breakfast from Chris Cakes being served from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Just Don't Call Me Late for Dinner has a good guide on where to eat with a run down of the food at Cafe Provence, Tavern in the Village, Story and Standees.
What have you got on tap for the weekend?
