The zombies are back. The 10th semiannual Spring Zombie Walk for Hunger is set for tonight at 6 p.m. It begins in The Pitch's parking lot (1701 Main).
Blues tastes better with barbecue. Discover why at the Gladstone Bluesfest tonight and Saturday. The outdoor music festival is at Oak Grove Park (76th Street and North Troost). They'll be dishing up brisket barbecue sandwiches and kettle corn. You can bring your own cooler but not your own alcohol. The event is free, and parking costs $5. The music starts at 6 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
Things have gotten easier since the pioneer days. Celebrate the history of Shawnee at Old Shawnee Days (11600 Johnson Drive, Shawnee), which runs through Sunday. The outdoor festival's parade is Saturday at 10 a.m. There's a pie-baking contest Sunday and plenty of fair food (think roasted nuts, sausage and peppers, ice cream, slushes) over the weekend.
Eat your way across Greece at the St. Dionysios Greek Festival (8100 West 95th Street, Overland Park) tonight through Sunday. Munch on pita, gyros, souvlakia, dolmathes, baklava and loukimades (doughnuts covered with honey and cinnamon). Wash it all down with Boulevard beer, Greek wine or soft drinks. The festival goes from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Wine and beer lovers come together at the second-annual Jesse James Wine & Brew Festival on Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. The outdoor festival at Jesse James Park (3001 North Jefferson) in Kearney, Missouri, features live music by the Overtones, chocolate samples, a wine class, and a collector's wineglass with your $20 admission.
