Eric "Mean" Melin wins U.S. Air Guitar's New York semifinal

Mean Melin takes NYC.

Kansas City's competitive air-guitar takeover escalated Tuesday night in New York City. Eric "Mean" Melin won the New York semifinal - somehow making Jefferson Starship look good - at the Bowery Ballroom. He advances to the national finals in Los Angeles on August 17.

We don't have a lot of details on his performance - although we did hear a trust fall went awry - but we'll update when we know more.

Also repping KC in NYC were Thunderball (Nielsen Nacis) and Air Jesus (JoJo Longbottom). Doesn't sound like either made the second round, but we did hear (via U.S. Air Guitar's Twitter) that Thunderball was "adorable" as usual and Air Jesus once again "died for our, well, air."

Several KC air guitarists - the CorpAIRation, Sonic Bitch, Pork Sword and Crystal Richter - will compete for a spot in nationals later this month in the Washington, D.C., and Chicago semifinals.
