There's a reason that the caipirinha is the national drink of Brazil. A bit of tart citrus from lime and a sweetness from sugar cane make it a great summer drink. You can find one of Kansas City's best examples of it at the Kill Devil Club (31 E. 14th St.), in the Power & Light District. Make it your cocktail of the night on Friday for Shay Estes' Brazilian Party, kicking off at 9 p.m.
Brunch doesn't have to be just a once-a-week affair, at least according to the Corner Restaurant (4059 Broadway). The reinvention of the breakfast joint in Westport has brunch offerings daily. And the menu has some treats for adventurous eaters, including avocado fries (panko-breaded and served with a tequila lime cream); a Not-A-Empanada (a sweet cream-cheese-stuffed wonton with housemade strawberry sauce and a balsamic vinegar reduction); and loaded grits, which are topped with a sunny-side egg, bacon lardons, mushrooms, onions, scallions, grana padano and butter.
It's for the kids. Beer Pong for Babies is at the Power & Light District this Saturday. The charity event runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but a few walk-up registration spots for $103 will be available at 10 a.m.
Whole Foods (7401 W. 91st St.) is hosting its annual Local Foods Festival on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Think of it as an organic sample day at Costco and enjoy $3.99 Shatto ice-cream floats at the free event.
