It's the end of the road for the Dark Horse Tavern in Westport. After their Saturday-night shift this past weekend, employees were informed that landlord Bill Nigro is cleaning house, and that Travis Fields, who has served as general manager at fellow Westport bar Ernie Biggs for the last four years, will reopen a new concept in the space.

The new bar will be called Westport Saloon and will be more live-music-friendly. "The focus will be on bluegrass, alt-country and a little bit of country," Fields says.

Torre's, the pizza joint in the back of Dark Horse, is also out. Fields says he's hoping to bring in a barbecue operation to replace it, but hasn't finalized that deal yet.

Of his decision to boot the Dark Horse, landlord Nigro says, "Every so often, a concept gets tired and worn-out, and Dark Horse was underperforming. I think Travis' idea has a much better chance of drawing new people into Westport."

The interior of the bar will be closed as it undergoes a face-lift over the next few weeks. Fields says the plan is to reopen as Westport Saloon on August 28.
