The much-awaited "street taco" concept restaurant Taco Republic, from the local Bread & Butter Concepts, opened today at 500 County Line Road in KCK. It's the latest in a flurry of new restaurant openings over the past two months.
The list of new restaurants in the metro includes the reopening of the Joy Wok Super Buffet at 11920 Metcalf in Overland Park, which put its "Grand Opening" sign back up in late July, six months after a kitchen fire caused extensive damage.
Other notable openings include the Pie Five Pizza Company at 13366 Metcalf in Overland Park (the first of several locations planned in the metro for the Texas-based chain). Empanada Madness began serving traditional Venezuelan empanadas, Cuban pastillitos, and Salvadoran-style arepas two weeks ago at 906 Southwest Boulevard. The Waldo restaurant formerly known as the Gaf quickly reopened as District Pour House at 7122 Wornall.
But wait, there's more!
Restaurateur and chef Bryan Merker opened a second Beignet on 39th Street last month. Other recent openings include 64 Tavern and Grille at 6412 Chatham Avenue in the Northland; Plowboys Barbecue in Blue Springs; Arcobasso's Restaurant at 6433 N. Prospect Avenue in Gladstone.
Perhaps no summer restaurant opening got quite as much press as chef Ryan Brazeal's new Novel at 815 West 17th Street.
The summer's closings included the 13-year-old Shields Manor Bistro in Platte City and the three-year-old Marrakech Cafe in Westport, Hickok's Bar & Grill in the River Market, the Orange Box in the Crossroads, and Milbourne's Food & Drink Company in the Northland.
