When the Sic Alps broke up, back in August, the sound of heartbreak echoed throughout the garage-rock community. Tears were shed and many whiskey toasts were consumed as indie kids remembered almost a decade of strange experimental noise. Then, out of the ashes, came Sic Alps frontman Mike Donovan with a solo record and a reassuring nod, as if to say that the magic would, indeed, continue.
Donovan's debut, Wot, doesn't reach the weird and spectacular heights to which Sic Alps ascended so well, but he does manage to burrow resolutely into your ear with a fresh batch of catchy garage pop. You can catch him at FOKL tomorrow night with Lazy and Sneaky Creeps. Details here
