The 2014 Folk Alliance Conference and Winter Music Camp is taking place February 19-23 at Kansas City's Westin Hotel, and there's just one week left to sign up for the discounted early bird registration.
As the FAI's new home, this marks the first year that Kansas City is hosting the conference and camp. The conference brings together music-industry professionals from across the globe to participate in workshops and panel discussions, and to share ideas. There are hundreds of performances and showcases held throughout the week. The conference also features special events such as the
Folk Alliance Elaine Weissman Lifetime Achievement Awards and other concerts.
The Winter Music Camp
offers a range of classes, from beginner's to master's levels, on instruments from guitar to accordion to dulcimer and pretty much everything in between, with subcategories for styles. There are also course options like "How to Play in Jam Sessions" and a Pro Tools/digital-recording tutorial. This year, the keynote address for the Winter Music Camp will be given by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Graham Nash (the Nash of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young).
The final official showcase entry for the conference and early registration deadline for the conference and camp - and a discounted $75 off the total registration fee - is a week from today, on Tuesday, November 12. (The next deadline isn't until January 16, though you miss out on the low rate.) Further details on registration can be found here
