When it came to the encore, Monáe didn't make fans wait too long. She followed the smoking, soulful "Primetime" with a very appropriate cover of Prince's "Let's Go Crazy."
Part of the way through her final song, "What an Experience," another promise from one of Monáe's lab-coat-wearing techs at the beginning of the show came back to me: "These songs are meant to free you. You will dance or die!"
Well, there's no better way to die than dancing - at least not if it's Janelle Monáe leading the march toward the apocalypse.
: I would be remiss to leave out the fantastic opener, Roman GianArthur. It's no small thing to be the opening act for someone like Monáe, but GianArthur was more than equal to the task. His stripped-down soul act turned the heat at the Uptown way, way up. That kid - watch for him.
