Blue Grotto restaurant owner John Grier has died

  • The creator of the Blue Grotto restaurant in Brookside, John Grier, died last week at age 50.

A popular Kansas City restaurateur, John Grier, the founder and owner of the Blue Grotto pizza restaurant in Brookside, was found dead in his home on December 4. He was 50.

Grier, a 25-year veteran of Kansas City's restaurant community, turned a former stocking shop at 6324 Brookside Plaza into the two-story Blue Grotto restaurant in 2008; his opening partners included his former wife, Michelle, and chef Chris Graham.

Grier's funeral is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, 5141 Main.
